At the Museum of Fine Arts Ghent (MSK), you can discover more than 400 masterpieces of European art from the Middle Ages to the present day. In our iconic building, Old Masters such as Bosch and Rubens hang alongside Impressionists, Surrealists and Modernists. With names like Ensor, Magritte and Permeke, Belgian art is well represented. And you can now also witness the live restoration of the Ghent Altarpiece, behind the glass wall of the restoration room. The museum shop and restaurant, a diverse programme with room for contemporary art and our location in the Citadel park all turn the museum into a vibrant place where you can easily pass a few hours surrounded by beauty.

This is a great gallery with a lot of art of varying styles. Seeing some Bosch in real life was a definite highlight for me. Some of areas were closed, but we got a discount. Excellent value.

There is a lovely park with two museum jewels set in it. I loved seeing the range of art from very early works to fairly contemporary in the fine arts museum and found the staff there very helpful. There is a restoration workroom there that...More

Spent 3 hours here and it was well worth the 8 Euros charge. True there are not that many masterpieces but enough of the lower tier to give enjoyment. Room 4 shows how (and why) the Ghent masterpiece is being restored. The layout of the...More

Outstanding hidden gem with massive collection of Flemish art. Special in room 4 was the restoration of the Ghent Alterpiece. We could spend many hours there - I especially liked the tapestry room. A bit remote from the old town area, this is a venue...More

There are many musea harboring magnificent paintings. The Museum for Fine Arts in Ghent to me is one of the best. The exhibition is superb, a mix of world renowned masters and less well known Belgian (flemish) artists. These paintings are very well presented almost...More

This is a nice museum with a mix of works from early modern to contemporary. My reason for going was to see panels from Jan van Eyck's altarpiece undergo restoration. Very (very) cool. The website closertovaneyck documents the process and offers insane high res close...More

Fun to see Flemish artists unfamiliar to me. Good collection, well displayed, quite a sizeable museum. Good restaurant too. On the edge of the lovely Citadel Park. Tram stop a few blocks away.

Has some pretty nice works in here. Covers period from great masters to the impressionists, but majority are the great masters. Also has some modern art as well. Interesting exhibition on restoring the altarpiece of Ghent.

It is open on Sundays (10 - 18) but like many museums in Europe it is closed on Mondays. You could try St Bavo's Cathedral instead on Monday if you are looking for something that is open.
