You like it or you don't like it. If you are a fan of modern art you feel at home and you will enjoy the creativity of the last century artist. Your mind has to be wide open for new idea's otherwise it is rubbisch. Before you visit the SMAK be aware you will not find tradiotanal paintings, sculptures or... More

The city guide said there was a good modern collection here: Warhol, Magritte etc. - well there isn't. We saw 4 disappointing exhibitions or installations and when I asked about the celebrated permanent collection the rather supercilious receptionist told me the only thing on show was ONE picture of a silver thimble! If we hadn't got in free on our... More

Loved this place. Decided to head here when staying in central Ghent. A short tram ride out of town leads you to a lovely little park through which you walk to the gallery. The exhibitions that were on were all good; a real mixture of video installation, photographs, sculpture and paintings. Very interesting in a lovely bright space. Not expensive... More

The building it self and especially the lighting was very nice. But the actual exhibitions did not apeel to me. Some boring photograhper and Gagarin.

Not a large museum but the quality was good. Information available in many languages. Installation by one artist covered entire floor.

A very poor museum, nothing worth to see including the present exhibitions. By contrast, great cafeteria.

I have been here lots of times during my childhood but I have seen a lot of chances being made over the last couple of years. Since the museum boss' illness (sadly he passed away now) the expositions don't seem quite as interesting anymore. Maybe that's just my opinion. Although it's worth giving this museum a shot, because there will... More

The upper floor of the SMAK is closed at the moment, so a visitor is resigned to wander the sparse exhibits on the 1st floor. The photographs from Iraqi artists are the highlight, but certainly not worth the price of admission. It's slim pickings at SMAK. If you want to go somewhere interesting, check out the STAM instead.
