A small but well-regarded commercial beer company, De Struise Brouwers is the brainchild of two ostrich farm owners (and in fact, the brewery’s name is taken from the historic Flemish name for this bird). It produces award-winning, distinctive regional beers in its own microbrewery in West Flanders, making them available for sampling and sales to visitors.

Only at de Struise can one taste the most nuanced Belgian beers around. Strong ales, stouts, barrel aged beers, Flemish ales and any other quality blend imaginable are offered here. Make sure you try anything head brewmaster Urbain Coutteau suggests - you will leave a satisfied customer and a de Struise fan for life.

This is a must see for beer geeks, but probably not for anyone else. It's a tiny shop, with two or three Struise beers on tap. There are no great comforts, but Struise are very hip and rock 'n' roll as far as brewing goes, and have fans all over the world. It's a good place to get chatting to... More

We only heard about this place as the lady running our B&b recommended we should visit. No signage from street so one needs to know address. Only open from 2-6pm on Saturdays but we got there late and were short on time so only bought some beers and left. Dude who runs the place was friendly and the tsp house... More

I visited the taphouse in Oustvleteren. It's only open Saturday afternoon's 2 - 6pm. It was interesting place to try quality Belgium beers, with the small taphouse having 20 or so draft lines. There is a small shop with about 10 different bottles to purchase.

We spent a couple days in the small town of Poperinge, Belgium with the goal being to visit, among others, De Struise Brewery. They are only open on a Saturday afternoon. Long story, short, we experienced a flat tire while bicycling from another brewery to De Struise but kept walking with the bikes to make sure we got to visit... More

A little odd that this place exists as it is large enough to fit maybe max 10 people comfortably and only sells one brewery's beers: Struise. Great beers that they are. They usually have 3 beers on tap and they are happy to explain what they are to anyone who asks. Beware though that the beers are usually in double... More

The actual brewery is located in Oostvleteren and is open (free) to visitors, at least on Saturdays, at their base in an old school house. The address is Kasteelstraat 50, 8640 Oostvleteren and I found it very easily by car (with satnav) and VERY worthwhile to visit. We visited it with a Belgian friend and stayed to sample some of... Although owned by the brewery, the prices are not discounted. But many of their beers are not freely available and so you can get these here. Ironically, some of their more freely available beers are cheaper elsewhere.

If you like beer pay it a visit. If your doctor has recommended you drink more water, pay it a visit, you will discover if you didn't already know beer is 98% water. If you want to experience some rather dry Flemish humour pay it a visit. Nice little visit again discounted trip with my Pand Hotel discount card got... More
