The most important of Bruges' towers stands 83 metres tall. It houses, amongst other things, a carillon with 47 melodious bells. In the reception area, waiting visitors can discover all kinds of interesting information about the history and working of this unique world-heritage protected belfry. Those who take on the challenge of climbing the tower can pause for a breather on the way up in the old treasury, where the city's charters, seal and public funds were kept during the Middle Ages, and also at the level of the impressive clock or in the carillonneur's chamber. Finally, after a tiring 366 steps, your efforts will be rewarded with a breath-taking and unforgettable panoramic view of Bruges and her surroundings.

This was an interesting climb! It does get narrow and a little strenuous towards the top, especially trying to pass people coming down. It was a gorgeous site and with the bells going off while you are up there it is a great experience. There are different levels you can stop off at if you cannot make it up all... More

The Belfry is a remarkable building on the Markt in Bruges. When you want to climb the tower (366 steps) to see the stunning view of the city, with its red roofs, make sure you come early or late afternoon (before 4pm) to avoid long waiting lines.

The tower looks amazing and was taller than we expected. This is quite a touristy place with many restaurants near by serving belgian and italian food. We didnt climb the steps but if you have time it might be worth doing so. There are about 366 steps and it gets narrower at the top. Dont forget to take your pics...

We climbed the Belfort on a Saturday morning in May. We would recommend doing this on your trip to Bruge, but gave an average rating as we felt the €10 charge per person was steep. The views were fantastic, and we edge lucky to have a clear day. There are 366 steps to climb, with some quite narrow spaces, so... More

I have been to the Befort twice in Bruges and wouldn't miss it on a trip to Bruges. It is a little bit of a challenge for the unfit and gets quite narrow at the top but the views are totally worth it! My advice would be to get there early, especially during common tourist times around December to avoid... More

And dont worry not to find something to eat or drink. Things are well managed and always look clean. There is also a Bus stop not far from the Post Office

Like a lot of towns, a climb up a tower is always enjoyable and offers great views. But for me seeing the carillon mechanisms and the chiming of the bells was the real highlight of the climb. spend enough time to see the it all work. Go early to avoid lines and get the clearest views.

Don't be daunted by the number of steps because there are landings along the way where you can learn about the bells and town history while catching your breath! A great view from every level

Climb to the top if you are able for stunning views across Bruges and as far as Zeebrugge. It is a hard climb and definitely not for anybody who suffers at height as the stairway is steep and narrow.
