The 115 metres high brick tower of the Church of Our Lady is a perfect illustration of the craftsmanship of Bruges' artisans. The church displays a valuable art collection: Michelangelo's world-famous Madonna and Child, countless paintings, 13th-century painted sepulchres and the tombs of Mary of Burgundy and Charles the Bold.

There isn't a square inch of this massive church that isn't decorated, painted, carved or marbled. It is still in the process of being restored and it is interesting to watch the technicians scratching away to expose artworks below layers of plaster. The only statue...More

Lots to see here. Do pay the €4 to enter the museum section and see the Michaelangelo. Great windows, side chapels, confessionals and more.

If you've seen the movie Monuments Men then you know about this statue. The museum within the cathedral is is amazing as there are 15th century paintings and things as well as the Madonna! Highly Highly Recommend this.

Having visited Churches/ Cathedrals over 1/2 of the world the ones in Belgium are most interesting in that they admit "light". No darkness in the nave or apses. This one has original paintings which you would love and for those who have seen "The Monuments...More

I would highly recommend a visit of the church which houses the Madonna and Child sculpture by Michelangelo. It is also the resting place of Charles the Bold of Burgundy and his wife Mary.

Included in the museum pass. The tombs of Mary of Burgundy and Charles the Bold are impressive. Michelangelo's Madonna and Child is the only statue of the artist outside Italy.

The large gothic Church of Notre Dame has a free part and a paying part. As the best works of art are in the latter part, it is well worth paying the small entrance fee. When we visited, in March, it was reduced because there...More
