Absolutely stunning. Paintings looking so good, so timeless, gorgeous. The real gem is the books section. Don't dare to miss it.

The grounds are beautiful! There's a nice gift shop. The art on display is beautiful; I especially enjoyed some of the caricatures and early magazine cover art. Unfortunately, much of the gallery was closed. There's a whole period missing around the 1500's and 1600's. If...More

Am I big fan of Jan van Eyck. Was looking forward to visiting. Exceeded our expectations. Such a beautiful courtyard and building. There was a printing exhibit at the time we visited, only added to our experience.

The four horsemen of the apocalypse in the adjacent garden are alone worth a visit. Think Night of the Living Dead. The print exhibition currently there is well worth a visit if you are interested in that sort of thing. Beautifully presented with excellent audio...More

This is a nice museum, but we were disappointed to find that right now the modern paintings along with much of the golden age and old masters are off exhibit. These were the very things we came to see! They have reduced the entry fee,...More

Emphasis on the collection of Flemish Primitive paintings (Memling, van Eyck). A small triptych of Hieronymus Bosch, some good Flemish expressionist paintings. Interesting temporary exhibition on the strange Colard Mansion. Included in the museum pass.

As museums in Bruges already close at 5 p.m. we didn't have time to see the whole collection of the Groeningemuseum because we spent much more time than expected taking the audio tour of the temporary exhibition on medieval book entrepreneur Colard Mansion. (until June...More

It is not too expensive to get in and there is a lovely Bosch to see along with some very nice other Primitives. Worth a look.

The Groeningemuseum and Arentshuis are really memorable places to stop while you're in Brugge. The so-called "Flemish primitives" in the permanent collection are generally amazing and, at times, jaw dropping. But, until 3 June 2018, the Haute Lecture remains on exhibition. This is one of...More

If you want to see how un-primitive the Belgian so-called primitive painters are, this is the place to start. Hans Memling was a genius. No wonder even the Italian masters learned from them. Well laid out with good captions to the paintings. There is a...More

I believe you are referring to The Madonna with Canon van der Paele by Jan Van Eyck. Although it's the madonna seated on the throne, not a man.
