Fortress on the seafront was once Napoleon's stronghold. Best seen from a distance really and location is a little isolated. You would need a car to get here or the coastal tram stops nearby.

While the building most definitely is cool it didn't look like it was worth the entrance fee so I decided to just have a look outside instead.

Renoved fortress to visit, to have an impression of ancient time and life, some explications; there is a brasserie, for drinking a good coffee and perhaps also a restaurant to organize feasts.

Not a lots there, just an empty shell. Not one of Napoleon's better ideas! Best access is via the free ferry which runs across the harbour from the Fishmarket

On a beautiful October day we walked from De Haan to Ostend along the beach and Spinoladijk (about 6.2 miles). We met a preserved bunker from the German World War II Atlantic Wall defences and a path leading to “Fort Napoleon”. We climbed the dunes...More

Fort Napoleon is definitely worth a visit; The fort is renovated in a very nice way with a modern and good) restaurant integrated in the old fortress. The audioguide is interesting as long as the actor playing a French soldier is not speaking, very annoying.

This is not a hotel. But I can assure you that in Belgium all hotelrooms are non-smoking.
