WE HAVE BEEN STAYING HERE SINCE EARLY 2000 when the place was a wreck, it is much improved totally different place since then, VERY NICE. If it is going to be hot though 80* or more you best find another place to stay, there is no air conditioning here and we have from time to time had to stay outside all night so as to not sweat to death, sleeping was impossible. Other than that if the weather is cool at night it is perfect. Seagulls in Oostende are annoying but they are a problem with all of the city they will be your alarm clock through the night and having windows open to stay cool makes it worse.

De Plate Folklore Museum was quite intriguing. It was all about the past of Ostend and its folklore. Quite interesting in fact, at least to me.
We were admiring pictures from the past, how people lived, they even showed pictures of the flooding in 1952.
There were a lot of pictures of fishermen, boats and fishing. Quite interesting compared to now-a-days techniques.
It was quite interesting to notice the cars from the past. Every picture looked quite different from how this city looked like in the former days.
There were even pictures of General Montgomery who came to Ostend. All the military men were in Ostend on that day!
I liked especially seeing King Baudouin waving from his car. When I was a young kid around ten years old, he waved at me from that very car, or a similar vehicle. That was a special day for me.
The folklore was well portrayed. I liked the one near the Zeeliedenmonument near the beach.
That was quite an eye-opener! Going back to the past was quite intriguing and worthwhile. I am certain that most of us would enjoy this trip to the past!

Museum is rather tired, but contains some interesting paintings and architectural models plus an entertaining video of Ostend's development as a resort. Royal connections are also dealt with.
However, the renewal of the museum which begins in 2014 is much needed!
