The convent was founded in the second half of the 15th century for the order of the sisters of Santa Clara. From outside you could be forgiven for thinking it was a Moorish palace. When first you enter you cannot help but notice the gold at the other end of the hallway. It's a church that we hadn't expected. The... More

The museum was a former monastery but today it's also the main museum of Beja. Here you can find important painting from XVIIth century, artifacts from roman time and much more.

After seeing the castle, this is a great next stop. Housed in a beautiful reconverted convent the museum has an amazing chapel and charter house. The blend of mudejar and gothic art makes it simply fascinating to walk through. Another gem is the mudejar decorative wall that is a real stunner. There is a small collection of Portuguese paintings from... More

Just the right size, stunning interiors and well illustrates the layers of culture and history here. Easy to imagine the cultured nun pouring her heart out in passionate letters in the giddily decorated interiors of the convent. If you visit this museum, you can happily spend the rest of your stay by the lovely Pestana Pousada pool.

Nice place to spend an hour or so. Lots of photo opportunities and only €2 admission!! You also get info in English on a handout which is really useful.

The convento was founded in the second half of the 15th. century for the order of the sisters of Santa Clara. It is now a regional museum. The first you will see when entering is the fabulous church. The walls are made of engraved wood covered with gold plate. Admire the engraved altars along the walls. Part of the wall... More

This museum feels like a secret. Perhaps because Beja is a quiet town or maybe because there is so much to see you feel like there is always something that will be missed. Amazing pieces of history. However, a lot of really cool pieces do not have explanations or information of any kind. I think providing more information could really... More
