It is a gorgeous drive from Evora out to this stone circle. It's lovely that you can just go & explore without any entrance fee or anyone saying what you can or can't do. You can just go & decide for yourself what you think...More

4-6K year old megaliths---you can walk around them and get right up close. Some have carvings on them. It might have been more informative to go with a guide but we stopped on our way in to ADC Hotel at Evora. easy to find--dirt road...More

Very interesting paleo period assemblage of large stones, in the manner of Stonehenge. I am not a scholor in these matters but I understand these were found mostly, all?, laying on their sides and archeologists needed to use their best guesses as to the original...More

This was probably used for Solstice ceremonies related to the cycles of nature in the Neolithic period. Great view.

These standing stones (ca 5000 BC) form one of the largest megalithic sites in Europe. We had a car and the signage was good; the roads not so much.

To think that people were living on these hills thousands of years ago is pretty incredible...The cromlech is worth a detour on your way in or out of Évora.

No public transport, and it's well off the beaten track. We had our own car, but car hire is cheap in Portugal (if you don't do it through an hotel) - probably less than a taxi. Well worth the trek, however you get there. We... More
