A car excursion of one hour from the coast to the heights of the Algarve, Foia. . You need a good clear day to appreciate the spectacular views from the top. Having wind round many a curved road, you want to see something at the top. Cafe/bar, large shop to buy Algarve style goods, and very good local crafts on... More

It's a nice place to stop, have a little picnic and enjoy the views. In February definitely quiet and unless it's a hazy day, you can see as far as the ocean. Personally, I found the drive up the long winding roads in the shade of eucalyptus and native trees more rewarding. On top of Mount Foia, there is a... More

We had a lovely view from the top, we could see right along the algarve coastline. It was cold and windy but well worth it. It was lovely to see a herd of goats wandering round with the goat herder. The drive up was very enjoyable and some time in Monchique is worthwhile.

We had a dinky little hire car for our holiday and took a long drive up to Foia through a beautiful scenic route, having to stop frequently to take in the scenery. The Algarve is not all about sitting on a beach going lobster red for you holiday so if you are reading this get a car and drive here... More

Highest peak in the south of Portugal has great views of the central west Algarve. Good, if curve laden road to the top can be a challenge when you meet a bus on a hairpin or have cyclists passing you coming down. But well worth those minor annoyances. Good snack bar and excellent artisan coop. Hint: the restrooms in the... More

We drove a very narrow two-way lane that could only cater for one car and I was praying the whole we did not meet another vehicle upfront since I really did not know how we would pass each other. Luckily none came but talk about sweating it out!!! :) Nevertheless the scenery was simply amazing, worth the drive. Then we... More

A bit chilly in February but it's the view that takes your breath away. Even on a slightly hazy day you get a sense of distance and freedom. The facilities up top are utilitarian rather than attractive, but are not important really. There is more space to roam than we'd expected though. The drive up there is impressive too, with... More

While visiting the little village of Monchique,a trip up the mountain top to the Foia is a must see! But go only on a clear day when you can see from the Algarve coast the mountain, otherwise you stand there in the clouds!Visit some of the local hand craft shops in Monchique. You can shop from hand woven carpets over Medronho spirit...
