Arrived at Caldeira early in the morning as the clouds were dispersing. The silence was deafening. The smells, colours and sounds of nature made this feel like a very primitive place. Eventually the mists cleared to reveal the Caldeira in all its natural beauty. Try...More

Felt like you were in top of the world as you stood at the edge of the caldera. One side was looking down into the depths of the former volcano spying greenery and mysterious shape and color. Other view was looking at entire island below...More

We walked the circuit around the Caldeira rim. Fantastic views as we "circumnavigated" the island. We had some light fog at times but not enough to spoil the views. The walk is 8km and takes about 2 hours, bit more if you keep stopping to...More

The approach road good standard, [ ok for a hire car] up to to the top viewing platform [accessed via a short pedestrian tunnel] means it can be very windy and cold - sometimes the weather will obscure the view totally. The beautiful blue hydrangeas...More

Pls hike the whole Caledeira which is only 8 km. You will not regret it. The view is breathtaking and you will see the ocean and Pico mountain too. We loved it

The drive up to the caldeira is beautiful and the road is well-maintained. There is a tunnel to go to an overlook. The caldeira is beautiful inside. I did the hike with my husband last week. It was a relatively clear day, but February is...More

You can see it all with Bruno from Toboga Azores! Look him up! He took us absolutely everywhere in one day on Faial ... Because that was all we had! It's worth it if you can get him! Best guide around and dirt cheap!
