This was a nice place to visit to understand the significance of whaling during the history of Azores, especially the island of pico. Good collection of artifacts. Nice place to be if the weather is not favorable outside.

very modern exhibits, extremely interestingly presented; you can get to know the past habits of the inhabitants of the time of whale hunting

Good movie about the great sense of community while leaving the island for the hunt. Old fashioned hunting unlike the floating factories. Nice and interesting items on display. Recommended.

The last sperm whale caught in the Azores was in 1987... This museum is set in original boathouses & was extended in 2008. It captures the entire world of whale hunting & processing & is exceptionally well put together. No matter how we feel nowadays,...More

Our family really enjoyed the museum. The film about whaling was old but interesting. We really liked the items on display including an example of a whaling boat and the whale art. Also liked the different items on display made out of whale bone.

This small museum is located in the former boathouses and provides a good and confronting insight into the why and how of the whaling industry in the Azores. This small museum focusses on the people and their lives in a whaling-community. It has a small...More

It was not an enjoyable visit because I can't understand the concept of killing a whale for commercial purposes. That said, the museum gave some interesting insights on how the hunt itself was done. However the place needs some work: the movie in english and...More
