If you are into military history and armaments then you may rate this museum higher than I did. For me the best part was that it is housed in the Fortress and you wander through and atop the Fortress as you view the exhibits.

Perhaps unfair as this is a working military building so you are warned to avoid certain someone areas. However the material on show really does bring to life the Portuguese/ islanders involvement in conflict - particularly in Africa more recently. Good views from the walls and an escape from the sun. Not bad Euro 3 spend!

Museum is in need of repair. I believe it was undergoing repairs as I was there. Some of the exhibits are in 95%+ humidity conditions. Its got a lot of arms and some uniforms. Some more history would be welcome.

My friend and I happened upon this museum walking along the pier and we were glad we did. Lots of interesting artifacts and exhibits. The fortress itself is also in great shape and there is lots to explore. This would be fun for children and adults alike. Definitely recommend a trip here!

was a nice old fort but to much attention to angola conflict and not about the history of the actual fort

Armaments on display and examples of cannons on the ramparts, but aside from the extremely pleasant guard/entrance monitor, not too much there.

I did not expect to see so many historic weapons, instruments, medical devices, vehicles, etc. The cost to enter is minimal and there is just so much to see. Perfect on any day, but a good place to spend a few hours on a rainy day.

The fort is the most interesting aspect of the site. There was a Nov 11 service while we were there. The views from the top are wonderful

This military museum was on the doorstep of our hotel we walked past it everyday. Decided to stop in to pass some time. It was a real treat, 3 euros to get in, lots of military equipment you could touch and fell. Long tunnel like hallway feels like a bomb shelter. Nice view of the harbour from the upper level.... Small military oriented museum and historic fort. The exhibits are well laid out and accessible with minimal English translations. The fort provides you with a panoramic view of that part of the city but very little view of the bay. A modern port now occupies the area between the fort and the modern bay. If you visit Ponta Delgada you... More
