This is one of the few places in the world where you can go inside and see a volcano. Its very wet, you'll want good shoes with traction and maybe a hoodie or even an umbrella. Lots of steps so be prepared. It's not a...More

This cave was beautiful. Not sure why you would sign up for the us tour if you have a car. It is easy to find and for 9 Euros you can buy a pass to this cave and Gruto do Naturales (not sure I spelled...More

I am unable to express in words, how beautiful this is. Many stairs to climb. But even if you can only do a few, don't pass it by. Well worth the effort.

We arrived to see the caves at 10 a.m.and they were closed. Only opened from 2 to 6 from June to October. Was at least 4 vehicles showing up at same time. We came back at around 3 and we're not disappointed. Well lit interior,...More

Magic and Relaxing place: Inside Mother Nature,100 m under the ground and a surprise that wait for you. What else? The price for the tour is very cheap for the experelience. I'm in love for the Algar do Carvao. Recommended.

Awe inspiring descent into a former volcano. There are many steps and they were wet and slippery the day we visited. Make sure to wear good walking shoes, use the railings and take your time. It is an other worldly experience.

We were at first worried for any potential fumes or risks because my wife was pregnant. We asked at the counter and the guy told us to just go slow and it would be fine. I guess that was wise since the only realistic hazard...More

On the island you are lucky to have a couple days with no rain. The day we visited was probably the rainiest day we had, but it was a prefect day to visit the cave. The little bit of light streaming in was beautiful. I...More

I believe it's open all year round. We were there in January. It is only open in the afternoon. Enjoy your trip. I love the Azores!

It's approximately ten minutes by car. You should absolutely do the combined ticket and see both if you have a car.
