It was awesome feeling being there. We saw wonderful churches, chapels .. gardens, museums all within walking distance, also coffee shops, shopping for local products, also for great local pastries and coffees.
Portugalia (both the Azores and the mainland) are full of beautiful churches, lots of them covered by Azulejos. In comparison this church seems to be rather plain both on the outside and inside. Don't bother.
The cathedral is several centuries old but has been devastated by earthquakes and fire, only to rise phoenix-like. Of particular interest (to us, anyway) was the center altar design and the modern renderings of the stations of the cross.
This is not even the best looking church in Angra. It's very dark and there is not much decoration. I would not even bother. Go to the church at the Museum of Angra, or the main church in Praia de Victoria instead.
