We had gone to Mafra National Palace and decided to visit Ericeira. It was great. So we decided to go back to our hotel in Sintra via the coast and stop wherever it looked good or beaches we had heard of. Praia das Macas was the last place we stopped. It was past sunset, but there was still beautiful orange light over the water on the beach. It was mesmerizing. It's a lovely small beach. I walked it to the water's edge and stayed there until I was afraid I would get swept away. Then I stayed until it was close to ink black. My wife stayed up by the car, but she came out to take pics including one of me. There were restaurants there and I wanted to stay and eat, but we had problems with the GPS in Sintra and did not want to get lost at night, going in circles. I asked my wife, "Wouldn't this be better than living at home?" Half reluctantly, half dreamily, she said "Yes."

Love this beach. A must try. You won’t be disappointed. Sand, water, view... amazing. For a well spent day in the beach with all family, you should try.

The beach is not as large as Praia Grande just around the corner but it looks like an excellent beach for families. There are several cafes near the beach. There is a natural swimming pool at the far side of the beach which small children can play in when the tide is right. It’s a pretty beach with waves. But there are certainly more facilities then at Grande Beach.

A real great place to visit and enjoy sun, sand, sea and some good views. Also restaurants, cafeterias and even a small supermarket are conveniently close by.

There are a few surfing schools that operate in this beach, also plenty of space for the occasional traveler, you can walk to close by towns and enjoy local foods. Public buses can take you there from caiscais, really worth it to spend the day in the area.

The late fall is a marvelous time to visit Praia das Maçãs, because in between the raindrops, the surf still pumps and the rocks still beckon you to climb, but the crowds are gone.

The best waves we have ever seen on this surfers' beach kept very safe by lifeguards. Lovely range of great cafes overlooking the beach.
