This place is filled top to bottom with cans of tuna, mackeral, and sardines. They had lots of different styles to choose from. We ate it for lunch many days. it was delicious. It can get busy, but it is worth the wait, and the line moves fast.

This is the most attractive shop. It really just sells tins of fish but does so in the most elegant way. A tin costs roughly €2.50 but has beautiful wrapping. Each tin is then re wrapped in brown paper and tied with string. A delightful of experience seeing a traditional shop with old shelving. Well worth seeing.

even if you choose not to buy any ... just being inside this marvelous shop in the Baixa is a great experience. They have an endless assortment of sardines and other canned fish in many different sauces or oil. Beautiful labels add to the attraction. Depending on what you buy they put the cans into a beautiful cardboard box with... More

Authentic Portuguese canned sardines from Bacalhau to sea bass/tuna and other varieties canned in olive oil. Each can is meticulously wrapped in individual paper packaging.

Sardines are very popular in Lisbon, especially canned. This shop, the best place to buy them. Assortiment here is really wide.

We stopped by the Conserveira shop. in the Time Out Mercado da Ribeira. It is a faithful replica of the original shop in the Baixa. The Conserveira is 84 years old and has its own production lines, packing superb gourmet fish in several factories around the country under the brand names Tricana, Minor and Prata do Mar. The person working... More

Tinned fish is available all over Lisbon but buying it at this shop is the best. The staff are lovely, attentive and helpful. Once yo make the selections they wrap them with care. These make perfect gifts for friends who like tinned tuna, sardines, mussels, octopus, squid, mackeral, etc with various sauce or old preparations. Great fun to buy and... More

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
