Perfect area for shops, drinks or eating. It's deal for sitting out ad watching the world around go about its business. The place comes alive at night time. Don't bother with restaurants trying to entice you in look for something quieter and with locals. A nice area of Lisbon to visit

A brilliant area to swing by late night for a beer and some snacks. Get lost walking in the back streets and while away the hours bar-hopping from one quaint little place to the next. The cobbled streets, architecture and views from the hills make it a very special place indeed.

Nice area for a stroll. We enjoyed sitting on a street corner at a restaurant while enjoying live music from a band playing on the sidewalk. Great place for shopping, dining, or just people watch.

We found a quaint wine bar on our way to the Barro Alto hotel to watch the sun set. Along with delicious wine, the bar serves simple, tasty food and has hats for sale. The friendly staff made it a memorable evening.

We saw this area mostly on the Yellow Bus tram tour. It was a great experience and both my 22 year old son and I were amazed by this neighbourhood along with some of the other older ones. It was such a contrast to where we were staying and what we first saw of Lisbon in the Parques das Nacoes... More

The former haunt of writers and artists, this bohemian part of town really livens up after dark with a loud and party loving crowd. During the day, make a visit to Rao Roque Church and Museum - a non-description church from the outside, but the most expensive chapel in the work lays inside Truly orate and lovely. Barrio Alto is... More

We enjoyed it and found the first restaurant of our visit there. Tight narrow streets and lots of cafes and hole in the wall restaurants. The usual tourist guidance to avoid any place that has a tout outside trying to drag you in certainty holds good here. If you have the legs and the wind to go there you should.
