Gorgeous long streets, all leading down from the hilly parts of the city to the glittering sea. The area is brimming with shops and restaurants, some touristy, some little gems. It's definitely worth a wander.

The center of downtown Lisbon, full of shops and places to eat and drink. Crowded, full of life. Maybe too many souvenir stores and tacky restaurants, but come for a stroll. Some pedestrian streets.

This is the most logically laid out area of Lisbon that was arranged by the Marquis of Pombal in the post-earthquake period. The streets are filled with a wide variety of commercial properties on the bottom floor - some very touristy, some for locals. Some...More

Lisbon’s Baixa district is distinguished by straight streets on a grid gently sloping from Rossio Square to Plaza of Commerce (Praça do Comércio), and Tagus River beyond. “Cidade” in Portuguese means “city”, as Baixa was a separate waterfront city—until the November 1, 1755 devastating magnitude...More

Cidade Baixa is the real heart of the city. It has all you need whether it's shopping, restaurants, or just sightseeing there's always something to see. It's frenetic so not a place for a relaxing stroll.

A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site,
Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply
"Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake
construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755
earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its
name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in
Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the
Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the

You should not confuse Lisbon with Boston. In the heart of Lisbon you can choose among several lodging possibilities (including rental apartments), a walking distance from plenty of options for your shopping.
