In 1937 it was named "Barrete Verde" but soon iit was changed to the final name that acquired national and international fame: ADEGA MACHADO. Today one may find a Fado House that renders homage to its history, to the founders and to all those who have added their personal and professional experiences to the memories of ADEGA MACHADO. In the Fado, Amalia Rodrigues proved her affection to this House with two yearly galas; the charismatics Alfredo Marceneiro and Fernando Mauricio came back many times. There are many to be named, but amongst those the interpreters Manuel Fernandes, Francisco Carvalhinho, Raul Nery, Adelino Santos, Beatriz da Conceicao, Maria Amelia Proenca, Maria da Fe and Mariza. The space was totally refurbished based on a new project, with a total preservation of the famous tiled facade and in the interior an area was created to display the large collection of historical images: paintings, drawings and photographs, property of the Machado Family. There is now an additional area, the Wine Cellar that serves traditional tidbits together with a large choice of Portuguese wines.

Restaurant recommended by our hotel. Expensive compared to other restaurants we visited. Live Fado music, the musicians were very good as were the male singers. Sadly the women were not as good. We had a very friendly waiter. Food was average, fish was slightly over...More

The house was very good and welcoming; people and service were very nice!! The food was ok. You can go if you are looking to fado and not necessarily for a outstanding food! In the end it was a good experience!

We want to have a fado experience so we search online and found this place. So it turn out to be super overprice with a really bad service.

For the fans of Fado is one of the best in town and for me was the best introduction in Fado music. It is a fine good, too! But I rather pay a ticket for the artists , than the funny price the wine. A...More

According to our hotel “2nd best Fado” in town. Very good show, far to touristy. I liked it, but am left thinking what a slightly less commercial experience would have been like. The sommelier sold us the most expensive wine and port cause we didn’t...More
