Built in 1998 for the World Expo, Parque das Nações is abit overbuilt, but has managed to kept a different atmosphere. It's great to walk by the sea/river (and have those trees grown since 1998...), and you have plenty of great things to do/see: Oceanário, Museu do Conhecimento, Teatro Camões, Torre Vasco da Gama. Definitely worth a visit. use the... More

The Expo '98 (Parque Das Nações) is my favourite area in Lisbon. The Expo has a more chic and modern façade... something you might not expect to see in such a historic city. A lovely area to have a stroll in, especially in the warmer months when the trees & flowers have blossomed and the fountains are on.... the colours... More

You have to visit this area, that was a fromer dumpster and was totally renovated for the World Expo in 98. Beautiful gardens and modern buildings, blend with the beautiful Tagus river, making it a wonderful place to visit. At night you have a bar area, where you can have dinner and a drink.

A loving place to take a walk, watch the river and take some wonderful pictures... You can visit the Oceanario de Lisboa, the Casino or see the modern architecture of the buildings in the neighborhood...

The gardens are in need of a bit of upkeep and the tower is closed as they are turning it into a hotel. 7 euros for a cable car ride to nowhere? This expo is o-ver!

A very enjoyable day out we had here. theres a lot more than you think if you walk all round it all, loads of fountains in all different places, went on the cable car that just hangs over the edge of the river, they have a full promenade of bars and restuarants, and it looked even better at night all... Interesting area, very modern with too much concrete that represents the ocean yet very little green space. It was very quiet in the area but an interesting contrast to the rest of Lisbon

Staying in Parque das Nacoes

Neighbourhood Profile
Parque das Nacoes
This neighborhood was built up at the end of the 1990s mostly because of the Expo '98. The pavilions and structures that once were the home of all the Expo's attractions and exhibits are still culturally and artistically significant. In Parque das Nações you'll explore conference and concert pavilions, a shopping center, trendy restaurants and an enjoyable cable car ride you can't miss out on. On top of this, the amazing Lisbon Oceanarium (one of the most spectacular things you'll ever see in the city) will take your breath away: its respect and will to preserve natural wildlife is uncanny. Easily accessible by metro, bus or taxi from the city center, Parque das Nações is highly recommended for anyone who'll spend more than 3 days in the Portuguese capital.
