Amazing modern museum

Great architecture and light, modern art from all over the world. User friendly as the rooms are not too big , but a few benches would be welcome.

The collection in the museum is very good, and even better, it is free to visit the museum. It is just a short walk from the Monastery and other attractions. The museum shop is worth a visit, too!

Visiting the art gallery with the permanent collection is "FREE" : ) If you appreciate modern art this place is a definite must. The gallery is located in Belem which makes it convenient to see many other sites along with visiting the gallery.

Imagine being able to buy whatever art you like - this is what Jose Berardo is doing. Stunning collection including all the great famous names of modern art - Richter, Polke, Warhol, Kapoor - all arranged chronologically.

The best collection of modern art I have seen in a museum. Only a short stroll along the front from the main Belém attractions. Very nice modern spacious museum with very attractive gardens and water features. Easy to navigate and each genre of modern art is nicely presented with some good informative info boards for each room. Works from all... More

Free entrance and not far from other attractions in Belem. This is a very airy and spacious gallery spread over three floors (lifts available for those who wish to avoid stairs). Go up to the early part of the collection first (1900 - 1960) which is upstairs - you'll find Picasso, Mondrain and others. On the lower floor is the... More

Apparently this isn't one of Lisbon's more popular tourist attractions but it boasts a fantastic collection of modern art in an impressive and imposing, modernist building... If you're visiting the nearby Torre de Belem or Jeronimos Monastery.... It's definitely worth leaving some extra time to visit MCB

Staying in Belem

Neighbourhood Profile
Belem
Belém is the "capital of the Portuguese Discoveries" and a photographer's paradise. You can spend an entire day exploring this neighborhood: monuments (Jerónimos Monastery, Belém Tower, Monument to the Discoveries), museums (Coach Museum, Centro Cultural de Belém) and breathtaking views of the Tagus river will make your visit worth your time. Belém also offers a variety of restaurants and cafes, namely the famous - and delicious - "Pastéis de Belém" (typical Portuguese custard tarts; make sure you buy an extra box of those!). Easily accessible from Lisbon's historic center, Belém is a must-do, especially if you're spending more than one day visiting the Portuguese capital.
