The park is a fantastic, romantic and exotical place, created by William Beckford at the end of the 18th century. The local Portuguese species (cork oak, arbutus and holly trees) are combined with many others which origin is from all continents around the world. More than 2500 species of plants can be found in this beautiful landscape.

Monserrate Park, which is located a few miles out of the wonderful old Town of Sintra, Portugal, is a captivating place. There are small vehicles which can take you from the gate to the House but we chose to walk down the side leafy lane. The carving is of Oriental influence as it is so refined and delicate in design... More

Loved how it was so solo, with a forest all around it. It was a hike down hill to, I had a total knee replacement 2 1/2 months before my trip to Portugal and Spain. Ice was needed most nights but wouldn't have missed any of the sights along the way. I did pay for a ride back to the... More

We have visited several of the places and found that each has something different from the previous ones. This palace has most rooms empty but the design and history is interesting. The valley view from the palace is fabulous ! Has a small cafe to sit down and chill ! It's worth it.

It was a bit expensive to get in but well worth the price as we spent a good couple of hours exploring the grounds and looking around the palace. This palace is extremely different from the type of thing you usually get in Portugal so it was quite refreshing, and the detail in the walls and decorations of the palace... More

It was so worth the walk from the bustle of Sintra central and then the challenging climb through beautiful gardens to the top. Entrance fee was modest for such a well preserved place in such a superb setting. We definitely deserved a cold beer after the descent!
