Well, this is something you have to do: take a hike to the highest peak of Madeira .. It took us about 59 minutes, with photobreaks one in a while.. so good hikers will probably reach the top in 30 minutes (or even less ^^)

We had a great hike to the top of Pico Ruivo. It is classified as difficult and there are definitely some strenuous physical aspects. The views are spectacular and well worth the hard work. For those who would prefer a less physical approach they can...More

We did the hike from Pico do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo and right from the start I can tell you the route is very well maintained. You have all that a hiker could wish for: signs, good rocky path and handrails for all the more...More

If you like trekking this is a must see in Madeira. The highest point in the island allows you a 360 view of mountains and sea. Beautiful nature and breathtaking sunrises and sunsets. Easiest way to reach it is from Homem em Pé, Santana.

Don’t let the difficulty rating put you off this hike. The whole hike is a man made path which is extremely well maintained. Clear route, hand rail, no severely uneven surface. There are a few steep parts but even these parts have steps - so...More

Early morning start to see the sun rise at Pico do Arieiro - it was amazing and a must see. Then took the 8k mountainous, hard going at times but safe trail across to Madeira’s highest mountain Pico Ruivo. Amazing walk and stunning views.

Think your best best is a taxi to Pico Arieiro and then hike to Ruivo.
