This "Manor Estate of the Crosses" museum is considered one of the most prestigious and well-kept museums of Madeira, which houses a splendid collection of silver, filigree and antiques that were part of a private collection of John Wetzler, a Czech citizen who lived on Madeira.

We visited this place and got a nice surprise with all the history this little museum has to offer. The silverware collection is beautiful and huge. The upstairs area is very interesting as well because it shows a little bit of how estates of that...More

Uninteresting, dark, depressing place. It was listed as one of the landmark of Funchal : well, that makes me worried about the others... Would not even recommend the place to my mother-in)-law ! Once again wondering how it can be rated 4 stars in TripAdvisor...

Not signposted in any way, and we eventually found this place after a long climb up a steep hill. We only came here because it was in a list of must do's in a guide book - my advice, don't bother. There is no history...More

This is a great little museum at the end of a fairly long uphill walk but worth it. It will take you about an hour to see the museum, gardens and chapel and at €3 each it is a steal..

Although others may be underwhelmed, I enjoyed walking up through the cobbled streets to this museum (and stopping along the way), touring this house museum (1 hr.), and relaxing in the adjacent garden that includes birds, orchids, plants, flowers, and sweeping city views as well...More

A small quinta with a little bit of history and a wonderful silver collection. The garden was a peaceful place with a good collection of plants and old stone relics.

The museum was rather boring. Beware, when they force you to leave stuff in the lockers; all the staff may suddenly leave the museum for hours without prior notice, thus leaving you stuck and waiting.

Considering this place is listed as a must see in some guides, I was very underwhelmed by it. Yes, it is somewhat interesting with the antiquities, etc. but I would not consider it a must see. The gardens were pleasant but in need of some...More

It's a bit of a trek up the hill to get there and it closes for lunch. However, making the effort you are rewarded with a pretty quinta housing a good collection of furniture and silverware bought by islanders with proceeds from the sugar trade....More

We were last in Madeira 40 years ago and then were staying in the Monte Carlo hotel that is almost next door. This museum was visited then but then it had much simpler exhibits. showing all about the sugar industry. Now it has very good...More
