Coming with the Cable Car, this botanical garden is a nice excursion. In the beginning it is a little bit confusing but once you are at the hous, you have a beautiful sight on the very symmetric garden. Simple but nice. According to the season...More

The Botanical Gardens will only take an hour to walk around. It wasn't too exciting for me. Before we went I had read about their Avery but unfortunately this is now closed to the public and so I was quite disappointed. However, the views over...More

We went here after cable a car ride to Monte, a walk then another cable car ride. The gardens are set on a hill so unless you are physically up to lots of steep walks do not go to these gardens. As we walked in...More

As part of our holiday this garden proved to be one of the highlights for my wife, an avid gardener. Easily reachable via the teleferico, a mind blowing amount of plants, shrubs and trees from all over the world. Our tour included a guide which...More

We went up the pretty way via the two cable cars which contributed to an enjoyable day out. The gardens are well presented though one part seems to have been closed for some time, awaiting funds for restoration. We would have liked to have been...More

Well worth a visit especially by cable car, the specimens of flowers are really beautiful. Great views over Funchal. The only disappointment was the parrots were close off when I visited.

This is undoubtedly the number one attraction of a visit to Funchal. The flowers are beautiful and the views spectacular. Any visit is an adventure, as it involves taking either the cable car or bus up to Monte, then travelling by cable car across the...More

Plus of course you can get there and back by cable car although noting it's two separate legs and not cheap but you can do as part of a trip up to the town further inland (forgot the name!)

We went up to here in November and sadly found there was thick mist around and we could not even see where we were going. It cleared a little later in the day, but we would love to return when it is clear. We are thinking of returning to Funchal in February or March, so can I ask if we would have more chance of a clear day at that time. I realise weather can never be predicted, but would like a fighting chance of some clear days, or would consider visiting at another time of year.

Hi where do you get the number 31 bus from to the Botanical Gardens and how long is the journey? We will be staying at the Four Views Monumental Lido in August. We went stayed there last year and wanted to go to the gardens but I just couldn't bring myself to get on the cable cars due to a fear of heights. Thanks
