We chose the easiest walk the Mimosa Valley and the Mimosa were in full flower. It was an easy 4km walk along the canal with a witty and informative guide on the plants and the small holdings on the terraces.

Even if you're too tired of your work and you want to do nothing in Funchal but sleep. Or if you're indifferent to such kind of things as open air walks. Or if you think there's nothing that may impress you any more. Just believe me and go do levada walk! You won't see such a landscape anywhere else. You... More

We booked on to this Levada Walk with Lido Tours in Funchal. Our knowledgeable guide informed us that Paradise Valley is named from the garden of a house that was once lived in in the valley. The garden was always in bloom and named by the locals as Paradise Valley. The walk takes approximately 2.5 hours, and is a popular... More

This is a must to see the island at work and from a height! We had a fabulous guide and were only a small group. We did the Referata which takes about 2 hours in all. You get to see the agriculture of the land and how it is farmed in steps at very close quarters. The irrigation system is... More

Spent a lovely morning walking around part of this levada......... easy 5km with a very knowledgable guide. Last section a bit muddy with some water splashes (had to pack trainers in poly bags for journey home!). Marvellous views down towards the south coast.

Booked through Pestana Owners office so not sure if it has a specific levada walk title but this is a walk with a difference. An easy walk with your guide Rita and her husband, Louis, followed by afternoon tea at their home, prepared by her Mother and her sister. A real family occasion with homemade bread, cake and cups of tea.... More

What a lovely way to spend a day, just be aware if you don't walk a lot normally it is hard work, there is 100 m of steps to walk down and you also need a head for heights at times as the drop is quite a long way at some parts of the walk, you are on a path... More

Pickup in minibus from Riu Palace in Canico on time at 8.30 and driven to Funchal where others were picked up and driven to a carpark meeting point to transfer to another minibus and taken up the mountain to the start point for the walk. The walk finally began at 09.30 and ended at 12.00 when we were taken by... More

Alvaro was an excellent and highly entertaining guide on this pleasant easy walk. It was too bland for my husband but perfect for people who can't walk up hills but don't mind a bit of mud like me. We saw birds, trees and flowers and our guide was great at telling stories about the nature and Madeira life. The minibus... More
