We spent some time walking around this beautiful book shop. It claims to hold every book written in Portuguese. There is also a very small section in English. The books are displayed with there covers facing forward. It's very easy to get lost in here...More

We random discovered this book store in Funchal and decided to check it out. When you see the store from the street it can look quite anonymous, but when you walk inside it uncovers an enormous palace of books. According to their own description they...More

Livraria Esperança, in Funchal. Space, lots of space. They are corridors with a kaleidoscope of books. A new Arcadia, or the only labyrinth of Europe's largest independent bookstore! I went in and got lost, you have to believe me! Finding this antic bookstore was not...More

I'm quite a purveyor of oddity and this place doesn't disappoint. :) A labyrinthine maze of all sorts of things. Lots of old books, many of which I desperately wished I could read. My own personal highlight was a complete wall of 1950s – 1970s...More

Even if you don't read Portuguese (there are some books in English), it's still fun to explore this multi-story used book shop. Here, the book covers are works of art filling the walls. Very friendly welcome (in English!).

This is "one of the biggest bookshops in the world", as they advertise it, and after visiting it it's not hard to believe that it is true. Its small entrance hides a labyrinth of rooms, big and small, covered in books from floor to ceiling....More
