We were statying very near to the cemetery. There is no longer any identifying signage. Just the new metal gates with the combination lock. With the use of a long selfie stick you can gain a view of the graves within, Unfortunately, the area does...More

I have been to Madiera and have loved each moment. This spring we're planning a few weeks and I would Very much see the Jewish Cemetery and perhaps help tidy it up and do some plantings. Not sure who to speak to about this...All suggestions...More

Quite a bit has been written about this intriguing cemetery of some 30 graves or so, including an entry in Wikipedia. While Madeira played the role of a refuge to many forcibly converted Jews AKA "New Christians" they slowly faded into the population ir emigrated....More
