Santa Maria Street is a narrow street lined with lovely restaurants but what makes it more interesting is the street art painted on the doors and walls.

A narrow street lined with restaurants and filled with art covering the building exteriors and doors - some slightly more risqué than others. Worth walking from one end to the other on your adventures through Funchal.

one of the oldest streets in Funchal, with almost every door painted with some sort of art work. Also numerous small restaurants along this street make it a very atmospheric place to eat

Visit the nearby local market; full of colour, costume, and a proper small market cafe serving excellent bolo do caco. Watching the fishmongers cleaning and gutting esparda is not to be missed.

You can’t go to Funchal without wandering the old town and admiring the painted doors. Every kind of art style can be found on the street doors.
