Told it was the most beautiful church, so obviously well worth a visit when it is open. The restoration works should have been completed by Oct 2015 but very much ongoing, otherwise would have had a better star rating I'm sure.

it was a typical Portuguese church...beautiful but not to dissimilar from others. Free and easy access.

this church is not to be missed. It is absolutely awash in painted tiles, called Azuleos in Portugal, even the outside walls.

Its façade is plain, but the interior of this 15th century church was transformed into one of Portugal's most wonderful examples of woodwork and gilding in the 17th century. It is a rococo and baroque masterpiece and it will impress you much. The church is a bit hidden behind a small square, and a little hard to find.

It is not easy to find it, beside a police station and there is only a little sign where it is. That is the reason that there are no tourists, when we visited for twenty minutes we were alone in the church. You get in through a renaiisan ce gate from the 15. century. It is the best gold wood... The church has a sign posted telling you where it is and is not far from the square near Se Cathedral. The main engineer was kind enough to open the fence and allow me to get in, yet only to be told when the works will be finished and why everything is covered to treat the wood for termites etc.... Several reviewers tell us that it's hard to find. And so it is. We made the effort because it is, reputedly, a real gem of a place. At the time of our visit the area all around the chapel square looked like a building site and the church itself was closed for renovations. However, it gave us an opportunityto call... More

There was no warning anywhere - even in the tourist offices - that the magnificent church of Saint Clare was closed for refurbishment. We turned up after a lengthy stroll to find all entrances blocked off. Another party turned up afterwards and I attempted to ask a thin man with curly hair and a necklace who appeared to be the...
