Went with my wife on Jan 7 of 2021 and took the private tour. It is pricey but worth every penny. The whole experience is spectacular. They send a car to pick you up very early in the morning (5am for us since sunrise is a bit later now) and you go straight into the forest to find the gibbons and in our case also the black-shanked douc!!. The hike is not too demanding and the temperature is very pleasant this time of the year. We went with Kyle and 2 very experienced local guides. They are VERY good at finding the smallest birds and you stop to see them. We got to see many and took some amazing shots of birds, monkeys, insects... saw an eagle hunting a squirrel... we had the best day.
The place where you have lunch is beautiful and the guides cook the most delicious food using a sort of bamboo pot.
It is a long day but in our experience, it keeps you engaged all the time so you don't even notice how tired you are.
The protected area is big and offers a very nice habitat for many species so every dollar you spend goes to a good cause.

p.s. A camera with good zoom will give you very amazing shots.

Thanks very much for your kind review! Ha ha yes the 1 day tour is very action-packed, I imagine most guests need some time to recover afterwards! As a family of six nature lovers, we had an absolutely extraordinary experience forest-bathing for three days at Jahoo Gibbon Camp. We were very warmly welcomed by Kyle, and really immersed into the truly exceptional old-growth forest that is still remaining there, against all odds. Thanks to Kyle and his highly attuned colleagues Hong & Nhe, we had the amazing experience, not only to see yellow cheeked Gibbons, but also the extremely rare Black-Shanked Douc Langur with their little porcelain faces. In addition, we saw giant squirrels, snakes, very rare birds, amazing butterflies and other insects, and one of the most stunning intensely yellow sunsets ever. In addition, the crew prepared absolutely delicious local meals, which were just awesome If you love nature and are happy to embrace simplicity and being away from it all, this is one of the best experiences you can get in Cambodia. Very warmly recommended!

Thanks very much for your kind review! Forest-bathing! Love it! We are really fortunate to be able to visit the forest here, protected by the community, its truly an intact habitat with lots of wildlife surprises. We were lucky with that extraordinary sunset! Dry season sunsets are out of this world, especially with a forest vista. We look forward to welcoming you again at Jahoo.

Stayed a night at Jahoo's beautiful campsite and got to sleep in a gorgeous authentic traditional Bunong house from which you could see all the stars and constellations in the sky with just your bare eyes. The food was delicious and prepared the Bunong way - with all the ingredients mixed together inside a bamboo tube and cooked over an open fire. We started our hike at dawn (the best time to spot the Gibbons) and I found even just the hike itself through the jungle to be exciting as there's a lot of terrain differences and lush flora and fauna to behold before you even get to the main part! The Gibbons themselves were amazing and we saw not one but two groups swinging through the trees! While it's not an absolute necessity, bringing a camera with a good zoom lens will greatly enhance your experience of seeing the Gibbons because while they're growing more accustomed to seeing groups of people it's still from a little bit of a distance.
Our Bunong guide was excellent and knew the entire area like the back of his hand and paired with Kyle's David Attenborough levels of knowledge of the local wildlife made for a fascinating and insightful trip overall!

Trying to watch and appreciate wildlife any where in the world has its challenges, but none more so than in Cambodia. So it is a true testament to all those involved in the set up and running of Jahoo at just how incredibly rich and diverse the wildlife is in the forests surrounding the camp.

My father and I booked a half day tour where we were lucky enough to see one out of two families of Yellow-cheeked crested gibbons multiple times throughout the morning. Our guide Hong knew exactly where to position us for the best views and in a way that was not detrimental to the gibbons themselves. Black-shanked douc langurs were also spotted in the canopy across the ridge, as well as Oriental-pied hornbills and Black giant squirrels.

One of the best ways to view and appreciate wildlife in Cambodia!

Hands down the most exceptional wildlife trekking you can do in Cambodia. Working in the conservation field here in Cambodia you hear of great location to spot wildlife, but this is by far the best. Our 2 days 1 night trekking experience was incredible, the Bunong guides and two Kyles pulled out all the stops and spotted incredible things. Some of the top sightings during the trip were a pygmy slow loris, culogo, black shanked duoc languar, gibbons, snakes and rare endemic bird species to name but a few! Highly recommend this trip, as stated in other reviews make sure you have some decent footwear.

We just had the most awesome experience trekking in search of the rare and endangered Gibbons in Sen Monorom National Park in Cambodia’s Mondulkiri Province.

Our guide Kyle was like a young David Attenborough, full of enthusiasm and passion for the wildlife, welfare of the jungle, eco-friendly conservation programs and engaging and supporting the local Bunong people to be involved with the entire project.

Seriously it was so incredible. We started out at 4.30am. I honestly had no real expectation other than the boys having a monkey jungle experience.

At about 5:30am we headed into the jungle. Kyle said we would hear the Gibbons singing and we would follow that sound. He didn’t really explain how unique and impressive their song was, which totally added to the surprise intrigue.

Hiking down into the valley with almost no other sounds their song had us looking all around high up in the canopy trying to spot the illusive primate. It was so exciting, like trying to catch sight of a myth.

The Gibbons are shy however over the years have become accustomed to the guides and visitors coming into their environment, hence the lovely fluro vests we got to wear.

I’ve seen plenty of monkeys in my travels but, without any discredit to them, experiencing the Gibbons was next level. Perhaps it’s the difficulty in getting close range or even the chance of actually sighting them. Maybe it was the remoteness of their habit and the tranquility of their environment. Either way it was an alluring experience to say the least.

The local Bunong Guides were amazing and cooked up and amazing lunch down at the waterfall. Definitely a must do.

Thanks very much for your kind review! Loved having you and your family at Jahoo and glad you thought seeing the gibbons was "next level", we're so privileged to get a chance to experience them like this in their own habitat. We look forward to welcoming you again at Jahoo.

A unique experience in the forest. We were picked up by Jahoo from our hotel and driven to the camp, which is very unique and made from bamboo. Our hut had a glass panel in the ceiling so we could look at the stars, and in our case lightening, at night. We did two days of trekking here which is a great way to see the forest and animals, and the early morning start to see the Gibbons is definitely worth it. We heard them sing when the jungle came alive, and then we initially had to chase the Gibbons a bit but after some time they settled and we could get great views of them. Our guides were outstanding. Our local guide Nyay (sorry about the incorrect spelling) was very knowledgeable of the forest and its inhabitants, and Adam our English speaking guide is a biologist and has excellent knowledge and was great at explaining things to us. The food at camp is excellent and all the staff are friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately the night we stayed there, there was a house warming at the local village which is right next to the camp so we had loud thumping Cambodian techno playing until 23:30, played at volume 11. It was unfortunate we didn't get to enjoy the noises of the forest at night and it made it hard to get up at 04:40 the next morning to do the Gibbon trek. This didn't ruin our trip - we just put it down to experiencing local village life. Overall it is an amazing unique experience which you should try if you can.

Coming to Jahoo with our family of four was truly an amazing experience! It’ started with Chris at 4:30 in the morning with his wonderful, engaging, extremely knowledgeable and kind personality. His enthusiasm and pride of his project and workers was the underlined thread of our entire experience!
Our morning started early with a sunrise walk to hear the Gibbons sing. His team has observed these family groups with careful documentation every 15 min. The anticipation and thrill of hearing them sing was truly a once in a lifetime experience!
Our guides took us to a lunch spot by a waterfall where they gathered additional plants and ingredients on the way and made a spectacular meal sitting next to the waterfall. It was a fully cooked delicious one of a kind meal prepared in a bamboo chute over the fire!
Our hike through the forest taught us about the trees, plants, insects, primates, and so many other things that the guides eagerly shared with us!
Our experience at Jahoo was one of our favorite adventures while in Cambodia! So proud of the work Chris and his team are doing!!! Anna and Ken Kozole

What an experience we did a 2 day trek and overnight in the jungle lodge. Lodges were basic but a cold shower with a jungle view was much needed after a hot day trekking
We were up early for the gibbons who did t disappoint as we followed their singing and then watched them - amazing
Kelly and the guides wer great giving us a fab insight into the jungle!
Plenty of chill time, food and trekking - thoroughly recommend
We did as a family ( children aged 14 & 11)

I spent a night at Jahoo, really unique wildlife experience in the jungle and on the sacred land of the Bunong. Woke up early and did a jungle walk with local Bunong guides and saw yellow-cheeked crested gibbons (including two families of gibbons fighting) and other primates and birds. The night before during dinner we heard an owl so we trekked only a couple of minutes into the jungle and saw an Oriental Bay Owl (?). I like the ethical component of the site - Jahoo is providing jobs for the community and income from tourism activities are going back to the community for different social services and conservation activities.

I am a vegetarian and was able to request vegetarian meals during my stay which was nice. The team working at the camp seem pretty flexible and able to cater both the experience and make considerations for any dietary restrictions. Camp itself is small, but clean and well maintained and views from the bathroom/showers cannot be beat!

Thanks very much for your kind review! Despite a short visit, we are so happy you managed to see quite a bit of cool wildlife, families of gibbons fighting (something we rarely witness) and the first recorded sighting of a Oriental Bay Owl at Jahoo. Glad you enjoyed the bathroom views, arguably the best toilet view in Cambodia, haha! We look forward to welcoming you again at Jahoo.
