The temple marks site where River Ganga descended to the earth from Heaven. Its quite peaceful place, the Great Gomukh Glacier once stood at this point which with rapid global warming is now pushed around 25 km back.

We started early from Harsil to go to Gangotri , 40 odd kms distance. In the peak tourist season ,always advisable to start and reach early otherwise it's too crowded for comfort ! Ganga is not merely a river but a lifeline for India ....More
