Kostas was a fantastic guide and driver - knowledgeable, patient, and kind. We started in Athens with Acropolis, then Temple of Zeus, Hadrian's Arch, and changing of the guard. Then off to Corinth. We stopped briefly to see the canal en route, then visited ancient Corinth and the Acrocorinth. Both two and from Corinth (1 hour each way) Kostas showed... More

It’s almost sacrilegious not to give even a full day to explore the birthplace of Western civilization, democracy, medicine, literature, theater, astronomy, philosophy, mythology and, oh yeah, the Olympics. Not to worry – as one of the world’s busiest cruise destinations, Athens understands the time restraints a sea-arriving visitor is under. Ground transportation from the port of Piraeus to downtown... We did this as a shore excursion & was most definitely money well spent. Thorough, with a very knowledgeable guide. We saw so much more than what you see on a cruise ship shore excursion. I spent 500€ on a private tour of Santorini which still feels like money misspent; the 260€ for this semi-private tour was a huge value.... More

We'd never done a private tour before, but it was day 3 in Athens and we had already hit all the sites we wanted to (Acropolis, Acropolis museum, Agora, temples, etc.)...The idea of waking up at 8am and paying 90 euros per person, just to sit on a bus for a big group tour to Delphi sounded less than appealing.... We booked a tour 'in the footsteps of Paul', and Costa was our guide. As it was a busy day in Athens with several cruise ships, he whizzed us off first thing to see the Acropolis - that sun had just risen and there was only a few people there - it was beautiful! When we left the buses started... More

Our tour guide, Notis, was well-informed, well spoken and flexible in his routine. We were his only passengers in a very comfortable SUV. We are husband and wife. No children. We had chosen this instead of the Viking excursions planned.

During our 4 days in Athens we had Athens Tours Greece pick us up from the cruise terminal and taken to hotel in Athens, then a day tour of Athens as well as pick up from hotel to airport. Each time they were on time, helpful and friendly. Highly recommended.

Staying in Syntagma

Neighbourhood Profile
Perhaps the best place to get your bearings is Syntagma Square, crowned by the imposing Parliament building on its upper side and surrounded by other large structures, such as the exclusive Hotel Grande Bretagne. The grand avenues that lead towards Omonia are also full of massive Neoclassical edifices like the Numismatic Museum and those around smaller Platia Kolokotroni. Here you will find lots of travel agents, bookshops and fashion shops, especially on Ermou Street. Just south of Syntagma Square, you can take a breather in the lush National Gardens, which extend into the grounds of the Zappeio palace and beyond to the ancient Temple of Olympian Zeus.
