Pleasant Break

It is an oasis of green in the middle of a city with little green. If you're in the city and need some peace, this is a nice place to stop and smell the flowers.

Went to the gardens with the impression that they were a "must see" while in Athens. They were nice and perfect for a little stroll away from the city, but not really anything amazing. If you're a tourist and have a limited time in Athens, don't worry about cutting this out of your list.

A place for a romantic walk, for a rest, to sit and read, for a fun jog around the park. What ever you do this place is beautiful.

It is found in the center of Athens, very well connected with transportation means. One can have a great walk in the garden, either to see the nature or just have a picnic.

From sunrise to sunset the National Gardens, originally the Royal Gardens, provide a peaceful respite from the busy life of Athens and a natural life reserve for both flora and fauna. It also encloses a number of ancient ruins, but also public sculpture, a duck pond, a Botanical Museum, a small cafe, and a children's playground.

Tired of the busy streets of Athens need some nature. This park is perfect nestled at the heart you can relax and lost the city for a little bit. Good park to take the kids.

The National Gardens and the various parts of it is beyond extraordinary. It was one of the most enjoyable sites in Athens not on the Acropolis Hill.

We went through this park from the Parliamant ot the Panathenic Stadium. Some parts were nice but there were huge sized stray dogs walking as well. All in all, this park was little disaapointment for me.

I was decidedly underwhelmed by the National Gardens. It was an ok park at best, but dingy and run down in lots of places. Pools of dirty stagnant looking water, random unattractive benches and tables, and lots of stuff that looked like it needed a good prune. We visited on a Sunday afternoon, and it was busy - lots of... More

Staying in Syntagma

Neighbourhood Profile
Perhaps the best place to get your bearings is Syntagma Square, crowned by the imposing Parliament building on its upper side and surrounded by other large structures, such as the exclusive Hotel Grande Bretagne. The grand avenues that lead towards Omonia are also full of massive Neoclassical edifices like the Numismatic Museum and those around smaller Platia Kolokotroni. Here you will find lots of travel agents, bookshops and fashion shops, especially on Ermou Street. Just south of Syntagma Square, you can take a breather in the lush National Gardens, which extend into the grounds of the Zappeio palace and beyond to the ancient Temple of Olympian Zeus.
