In an old traditional hours of a ship's Capitan you can see the private collection on the the story and the culture of Symi. The main focus is on sponges harvesting that has been the prominent economic activity of the island during two centuries.

Spent a pleasant time looking round the wonderful collection of objects in this little museum,the lady who runs the place and paints lovely pictures outside the front of the museum is knowledgable and gives help full advice
Like many other museums in Greece today, this museum is currently "Closed to allow Improvements". I wish we hadn't walked the back alleys of Chorio following "Museum" signs and black painted arrows trying to find it.
The museum is easy to find just behind the square by the town bridge. It is a traditional old building with lots of local history and a number of interesting exhibits on display. There are good views across the harbour from the first floor terrace....More
Nice little museam lots of local bits and pieces and historical artefacts. A couple of pictures that are quite thought provoking. Very friendly boy taking the money and will show you were to go. Worth a visit."
