Overview

The place where the bridge is built, is the narrowest point of the channel, and the water current can reach the speed of 15km (9 miles) per hour! It is really interesting to watch the reversion of flow direction that happens about every 6 hours. The exact time of reversion is determined by the position of the moon.

The bridge over the sea arm separating Chalkida from the continent is one of the best places to watch the spectacular shifting currents going underneath. probably one of the most photographed spots in town.

We were lucky enough to see the bridge open for ships to pass through. It was amazing to watch small fish try to swim against the tide, only to be forced backwards till they turn and swim back the way they came.

What's interesting about an old fashioned bridge you might ask? Well there are two things to be honest. Maybe three. Yes, three. The third one is - it has an art gallery underneath it. Two - the water current changes underneath it every few hours...More

You can drink coffee or eat near the bridge. The interesting thing is that the water change direction every 6 hours and you can observe this strange phenomenon from the bridge.

The bridge is interesting when it lifts in order to pass by some boats. Otherwise is very crowded. Just walk around the seaside.

The bridge is an excellent location to observe the changibg of the tides, and there is a medium-sized cafe right on it where you can sit and admire the whole panorama.
