The Musesum of the Macedonian Struggle is a historical museum that presents the local history and cultural identity of Macedonia, keeping alive the memory of the struggles of Hellenism and highlighting the role of ordinary people who left indelible traces in a diverse cultural heritage.

With the tours one discovers a lesser known but ideologically charged chapter of the Greek and Balkan history of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The Museum is open to the public Monday-Friday 9:00-14:00 and Saturday 10:00-14:00.

This is a very well laid out museum with full English descriptions and explanations throughout. It's not too large but it's packed with fascinating information about how the local Greek population fought for what they have today. What a struggle !! Once you have seen this, so much of what you see in the modern city and in Greece as... More

Detailed chronological information & some wonderful exhibits to explain the turbulent history of the region. Very well laid out, life size scenes downstairs, helpful young man on the desk, in a beautiful building, one of the most interesting museums I've been to in a while!

In the heart of Thessaloniki, the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle give us the opportunity to learn about the Macedonians and their efforts. Very well organized, silent rooms and atmosphere, gentle hospitality and interesting books to buy and have them for a life. I will visit the Museum again for sure...

The country of Greece and its' islands, particularly Crete, has a very complex history which most people are not aware of. The museum is small and a tour, including watching the videos would take an about one and a half hours, is worth exploring.

We had a very interesting visit to the museum and were helped by a great guide (Sophie) who helped us through some of the more complicated aspects. Most items had English summaries so that helped a lot. The old building housing the museum is also very attractive and we enjoyed that. We emerged much better informed about life in Thessalonika... This musea is small, but it shows so much about macedonian history. The staff was very friendly, and gave me a discount card, since i was quite late.

This small museum combines an enticing layout with a commentary - in both Greek and English - which enables the visitor to be enchanted for an hour or more and to come away with a well informed awareness of not just the turbulent history of Thessaloniki and Macedonia but of the nation of Greece. We particularly enjoyed the brilliant installations... More

the local Greeks really resent the neighbouring state using the title of Macedonia. Alexander the great was a Macedonian and a proud Greek, this museum will bring you up to speed with the issues!
