There are tours (in Danish) of the Royal Theatre, but the best way to see it is with tickets to the opera or the ballet. Opera is not my thing, but Royal Danish Ballet is an *excellent* company for ballet. They are probably the only company that has maintained an unbroken tradition of classical 19th century ballet technique. We watched... More

It was open practice for the royal ballet company. They started at the bar and ended up showing som of the solo dances. It was marvelous! The live piano the hole time and the atmosphere was absolutely spellbinding. The talent and hard work was outstanding. I'm going to see it aging for sure!

Gamle Scene (Old scene) located at Kongens Nytorv is from 1874 and is now just one out of three facilities, the oldest one. It can house 1600 spectators incl.. royal family who has a special lounge reserved. Foyer is full of portraits and busts of royal actors. Beautiful house, great ensembles especially the famous danish ballet

We have been to many theatrical performances around the world, yet I have come to deeply appreciate and love the Danish Royal Theater (group). They have made art accessible to all by breaking down barriers with much needed modern updates to classical stories. We took our 14 year old son to see the Marriage of Figaro on 29 March. Up... Attended the Nutcracker here, which was excellent. The venue itself is beautiful and perfect for the ballet. Only problem was finding a drink other than over priced Champagne at the interval.

Saw the Marriage of Figaro in the 'Old Stage' ('Gamle Scene'). The music and singing were great; it's Mozart after all! But the mise-en-scène was massively amateurish, poor quality school production-like and cheap-looking to the point where it actually distracted from the overall production. The seats were nothing short of awful, even though our ones were not the cheapest by... More

I am only scoring this 4 out of 5, because i did not get a chance to have a look inside. The facade is so detailed and so interesting, and for an architecture buff, it's a must see. I have been told that the interior is rather beautiful as well. Would definitely go next time I'm in Copenhagen.

A magnificent piece of architecture worth visiting and walking around on all 4 sides as the decorative surfaces both on the building and on the exterior even on the sides and streets are very cool. A short walk from the main train station. the Doctor

Glamorous, charming, it makes a statement, it is imposing in the city square, very close to trams and trains, some fabulous performances, well worth part of your evening to catch a performance if you get the chance.

The Royal Theatre is located on a busy intersection and there is some construction going on at the moment as well, so you can't hang about without going inside really. It's well worth the trip.

Neighbourhood Profile
Indre By (Inner City)
This is the heart of old town Copenhagen, with its blend of charming old buildings and bold new architecture, broad avenues and tiny streets as well as picturesque canals and a modern harbor. The inner city is home to the Royal Danish Theatre, which consists of three buildings, two of which are new and situated on the harbor front. The streets, squares and venues of the inner city and its surrounding neighborhoods, are alive all year round with everything from jazz festivals to outdoor ice skating rinks and parachuting at the lakes right in the center of the city. This compact area boasts beautiful old castles, tranquil parks, and bustling squares where you can always find a bench to stretch out your legs whenever you need a break.
