About
Kronborg is a must-see! “Hamlet’s Castle” is a magnificent experience with soaring towers, a huge ballroom, damp casemates and just 40 minutes from Copenhagen. At the narrowest neck of the sound, between Denmark and Sweden, the medieval fortress merges with the magnificent Renaissance castle and there are few sites in the world where so much drama and history is gathered in one place. Mythical hero Holger the Dane’s mighty sword meets Shakespeare’s equally mighty pen, as the spirit of Hamlet glides through the castle. No wonder this extraordinary place is on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

If you want to see a castle in Denmark then this js the best one. There are beautiful views from the castle and the history of the castle is interesting. It is an easy one hour or less train ride from Copenhagen and there is other stuff to do in town. The town is nice to wander around d too.

Still a very cool castle from the outside with amazing history, but the interior is no longer original and is quite bland. If you are on a time crunch and can only see one castle, unless you are a huge Hamlet fan, I'd go see Frederiksborg castle instead.

The grounds of the castle are very picturesque and magical! Looks straight out of a fairy tale! You also get a great view across the sea to Sweden. In our opinion the inside of the castle wasn’t the best in comparison, as we had seen Frederiksborg just the day before. Might be cool if you’re more interested in the inside, but overall it wasn’t the best. However, there are also a series of tunnels that are very cool and interesting to see! Would definitely recommend that part!

Kronberg is a beautiful slab of renaissance architecture sitting in an impressive setting commanding the straits. A short walk from the station takes you through the well preserved outer fortifications. The entry price was a fairly reasonable 140 DK. The interior has a number of current displays but actually lacks much in the way of historical artefacts excepting tapestries and a number of painting.
A visit to Kronberg probably works best as a full day out. Helsingor has a well preserved old town with a smattering of half timbered houses, an impressive cloister and brick church. Helsingborg is only a half hour ferry ride away with a super regular service running every twenty minutes. This Swedish town looks a bit more active and has an interesting old church and medieval tower to explore.

Thumbs up for the staff at Kronborg castle!
Ida was my guide at the short introduction tour and she was precious! I 100% recommend having the tour first thing when you enter the castle, you will understand your visiti much better.
On the other side, the awesome, marvellous, amazing Mr. Jorgen Ostergasrd (sorry if I mispelled your name!) gave me so much information when I met him inside.
All the staff I met throughout my visit was very prepared and went extra mile to help me. The staff at the castle definitely made my experience at the castle even more incredible. Thank you so much to you all!

We went with the Copenhagen Card.
Wow wow wow what an experience and what a day. Copenhagen Card includes the transportation to Helsingoer, the admission to the castle and the museum right next to it.
The train to Helsingoer takes about an hour - it's direct, very easy. The train station is a 15 mins walk to the castle. The castle is humongous and you have gorgeus sea views.
The visit includes a very detailed history of the castle, with its imense rooms and halls, you can visit the kitchen, the church, and the underground. All seem to be very untouched, very real, very true to the time.
Now, be aware that the underground, it's a real not at all changed old castle basement (in another words: SCARY). I LOVED IT... For the most part, you don't have light, so I guided myself with my cellphone lantern. Loved it.
I understand why it may be disappointing if you are expecting a very ornamented full on palace. It isn't. It is very empty and just well kept. But we had a lot of fun and a real good time there.
If you're wondering where to eat next, I bet there's a lot of restaurants in the city, but the best surprised was the food market next to the castle, very alternative and cool food market. The vibe is super chill and lovely. The cherry on top!

The castle looks great from the outside, but goes downhill once you get in. There's not really a lot of information when you get inside (and most of the furniture is replicas since the original furniture was removed). We downloaded the app, but it only covers a few of the rooms. We've visited around 10 or so castles in Denmark so far, and this might be the least impressive. The best part was actually the casemates underneath the castle.

One of the attractions of the famous fortress is the gallery of performances of Hamlet within his putative castle. Richard Burton in his 1954 role is great as is that other famous thespian John Gielgud.
Having seen the castle numerous times during our daytrip to Helsingør, it was delightful to visit it come evening time when it looked even more evocative.
A procession of fine rooms were on the visit, some with grand tapestries. A Royal Chapel is beautiful with exquisite wood carvings and a grand organ.
Its underground corridors and rooms, casemates, are worth exploring and here Holger Danske is to be seen.

The grounds are well kept - the town is also pretty

I would rate it as 3.5 stars as it is better than average. The location is very nice. You can also see the Swedish coast. The views on the outside are very nice especially when you get there with the right lighting. The inside is a little disappointing. As the castle was not used all the time a lot of the furniture got mover around so there is not much to see. A lot of the other stuff (fountain, paintings etc) was taken by the Swedes when they occupied the castle for 2 years. Other things were destroyed during a big fire. So besides the history there is not much to see on the inside. Even though we enjoyed walking around this pretty well maintained castle

Hi ! I'm going to Helsingor tomorrow and I've just seen that because we are in November the castle is close on Monday, I can not go there another day so I would like to know if it is possible to see a part of the castle, at least from outside, and have a walk around in closing days ?

You can see the castle from out side but it would be like looking at a delicious cake in the show case and not be able to taste it. It is far and if you dont have transportation then better you skit this trip. A picture post card would give you an idea of the castle.

I'd like to know if we should go by train - or go at all -if it's going to rain all the time.

It is connected by bus and there is a combination of indoor and out door things to do and see. This is a must visit place in Copenhegan.

Hi, my wife is turning 30 in May and we happen to be near by. We are planning to visit the castle with our 2 kids. Anything special you’d recommend - any plays banquets at castle I can book? I tried at the castle website but I keep getting error msgs. Thanks

Hi, is any part of the castle open to public without tickets/ free? How much time should I set aside if I wish to visit the whole of the castle/ take a full tour ?

I would allow half a day to see everything. I had purchased the ‘Copenhagen Card’ which includes all museums, entrance fees to the castle plus public transport. You can purchase the tickets upon arrival but I guess during high season there might be a long line so maybe booking in advance might be worth while.
