Royal cathedral

The cathedral is centrally located in the town and is a beautiful Gothic styled building. Danish royal family members rest in the crypts.

A beautiful cathedral. The resting place of ancient kings. Like almost all religious buildings it is beautifully maintained and a joy to walk around and experience and learn about Danish history. Absolutely worthwhile to visit if you are in the area.

A large red brick church ..... I didn't see the attraction beyond historical significance. A nice walk if your coming from the Viking ship museum.

Thank you for reviewing Roskilde Cathedral, although we are surprised that you did not see the attraction of the cathedral beyond historical significance. In our opinion it is an artistic and architectural achievement with no comparison in Northern Europe. Roskilde Cathedral is not just a big red building. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site due to its influence on... More

We weren't sure what to expect here but decide to pay the $8.00 each to enter. It turned out to be so much more than we expected. This is where most of the Kings and Queens of Denmark have been buried for the past 1000 years. It has been declared a World Unesco site...and easy to understand why.. So much... More

Roskilde Cathedral is one of the two main attractions in town, the other one being the Viking Ship Museum. The church is on the main path between the train station and museum. Your best bet is to see it going to or from the Viking Ship Museum. Admission is about $10 US in Danish currency and included a really nice... More

Thank you so much for your review, and notably for pointing out the importance of the triforium. The triforium was not accessable to the visitors before 2012, and your review confirms that this is a valuable addition when visiting the Cathedral. Kind regards David Høyer Heritage and Visitor Manager More

Large cathedral complex of Roskilde offers amazing history, perfect (sculpture) art and daily worship. Outside the worship hours is the entrance charged.

Amazing and huge church with beautiful art everywhere and a lot of history all around. You can visit as a museum or to a worship. Both is breathtaking.

I say "very different" as it was the first Lutheran Cathedral I have been in. It is not as dark and over busy as most Catholic ones seem to be, nor as stark as most Anglican ones are, but unique to itself with some interesting and pleasant wall decorations etc. We were staying in Roskilde and using it as a... Bluetooth created a signaling system for his network of observers using fire beacons on top of each hill to track enemy attacks. This is exactly how Bluetooth works on your mobile phone and laptop, just 1000 years ahead of his time. His interment is unimpressive if you can even find it (just center left in the Cathedral, marked in the... More

This is a mandatory visit when traveling to Copenhagen/Denmark - since the city of Roskilde is about 20min from The Danish capital by train. Visiting the sarcophagus of the dead Danish kings and queens inside the cathedral was an stunning experience and I highly recommend it to learn about the country's history and traditions.
