It's a shame with so few 'cultural' activities in the region to find that the castle was padlocked shut on Sunday afternoon and that all the information panels were defaced or illegible due to the weather and half-hearted repair. Sad, as the history of the castle has a lot to say about successive invasions of Iberia and the local relationship... More

It took a little while for us to find, google lead us the wrong way. But once we figured out where to go it was fairly easy to navigate and really beautiful. It is a bit of a walk if you choose to do the hike, but I think it's work the extra time and energy to walk the whole... More

Came here on a jeep tour. Was very interesting to see and be up close to a castle that has been there over a thousand years and withstood a major earthquake. You cannot go inside but you can walk all around it and it is amazing.

This castle guides us in the past, to see an erected tower and other ruins; this castle is desert since a long time and I don't know something of his secrets, but with a good imagination, it was a nice castle with a splendid view to the nice countryside.

Remains of a castle with plenty of space for kids to run around . Don't expect any of it to wow you but worth s visit if you are passing by.

It's a 15min drive on a gravel road, from the town of Paderne. If you are going by walk, make sure you wear a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen! When we visited the site, there was no one. You may want to double check the opening hours before heading there. The site is well preserved and worth the stop. Last but... More

Interesting point to stop off at but information boards etc are poorly maintained and you can take it all in in 20 minutes.

We visited paderne castle and were pleased to find the gates to the inner grounds open. Very nice to look at the remains. There is then a lovely walk to the old roman bridge where we were lucky enough to see a kingfisher and a turtle. The car park in paderne is free too which is always good.

Incredible views from the top of the hill. As you arrive in Paderne from Albufeira there is a faded sign marked castle. Turn left and follow the road. There is a spot with a well , washrooms and many rv's. Keep driving. The road turns to gravel and then winds its way up the side of the hill. Depending on... More

A castle ruin. It is locked, perhaps for safety reasons, so you can't get inside. If you can't find it, not to worry!!!!
