Dating back to the 13th century, this church has a distinct character and history. It is the oldest in the Old Town and is home to several relics as well as an impressive statue of Saint George fighting the Dragon. Storkyrkan can pique almost anyone's curiosity, not just the history buff's.

Dating back to the 14th century, this is the place to trace the beginnings of the Christian faith in Sweden, even if much of what you see is Baroque additions rather than the original Gothic form. Highlights include an enormous painting of the Last Judgement...More

There is a small fee to enter the facility, but that was totally worth it. What is inside is beautiful and impressive: the royal pews, candle globe, pulpit, altar... Our favorite was Notke's St George and the Dragon. Plan on spending some time enjoying everything...More

Very interesting and informative. You will see items that you can not see anywhere else. In one word - even though I am not religious at all, it is a hidden gem.

The interior of this cathedral is a combination of ornate and "sturdy." It's really breathtaking, and the massive pipe organ is really something to behold.

Oldest church and an example of Swedish Brick Gothic. Located in Gamls Stan, next to the Royal Palace, so good to visit both of them.

An interesting place to visit. Lots of Swedish history and culture. A guide may be needed to fully appreciate the experience.

The old had to make room for the new so they blew out the back wall and built a so-so looking modern church where Mass is held. The old is lovely and worthy of photos. Staff volunteers are in red blazers. This made it easy...More

Stockholm Cathedral - known as Storykyrkan locally - is located in Gamla Stan right next to the royal palace. It is well worth a visit. The overall style is Gothic and it has several famous art pieces, including a wooden statue of St. George and...More

Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home
to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central
island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small
island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous
Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit
touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting:
take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and
through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest)

We'll be visiting Stockholm, for the first time, this July. We'd really like to hear an organ concert at the Storkyrkan cathedral but haven't been able to find a schedule/program in English. Help, please.

The visitor centers in Uppsala and Stockholm are incredibly helpful. Check out the schedules posted throughout both cities. The train stations are a great place to find good venues. Lots of beautiful music everywhere!
Anyway to pay an organist to play the organ for a half hour or so of Bach music? Either June 25 or 26 or July 3 or 4? We are taking a cruise from Stockholm.
