While visiting friends who live in Prince Edward County, we were taken to Black River Cheese Company, which lies on County Road 13, about two miles northeast of Port Milford, just over a bridge. If you're a cheese lover, make a point to stop here and taste these locally-made cheeses! There were several cheeses available for sampling. We found their... More

Had some "local" knowledge about this place because the directional signage around the island is almost non-existent! Fortunately we found it. The cheeses are diversified in their flavours and the maple cheddar was an interesting find. The marbled goat cheese was smooth and the 6-year aged white cheddar was spectacular!!! (It was also featured on the "LOCAL" charcuterie board at... More

My fiancé doesn't even like cheese yet she loves the honey cheese here. Nice little shop with sampling and lots of cheese to choose from.

We travelled to Black River Cheeses and stopped to shop. Two of us needed the washroom and were directed to two portable toilets beside the store. They were disgusting, filthy, no toilet paper and no water to wash hands. I found it shocking that they were asking patrons to use these toilets that were not maintained. It made me think... More

We went to get some ice cream and we loves it. I had the "bear paw@ chocolate ice cream and he had the "salty caramel" one. Both were really good. The price is reasonable and portions are great. There are a few picnic tables on site but they will not give a great view of the river as there is... More

Standard Small Shop with expensive ‘local’ jams and condiments along with their cheese. Mostly hard cheeses. The aged cheddar is good but I definitely prefer Balderson’s cheese. I would rate this as worth a stop but not a detour. Next time we will try Fifth Town Artisan Cheese a little further east. I understand they have greater variety. The ice... More

I've spent 20 summers in the county and going to the cheese factory has been a staple of our summer! The cheese products are great, and even better is the ice cream (MASSIVE portions!). This past year the company was unfortunately sold to a larger brand name company, so I was worried it would change but I'm happy to report... More

The maple flavored cheese was well done. It is very creamy and sweet. I wasn't a big fan of sweet food, but this was quite an experience.

Scooperman's Frozen Ice & Yogurt in Picton was closed due to construction, but we got ice cream at Black River Cheese Co. about 10 minutes outside town. It's not worth the drive unless heading to one of the county museums; their cheese production has been moved to Ivanhoe's (North of Belleville), so there isn't much to see. The Galloping Goat... We stopped here as we were out for the day driving around Prince Edward County ......but it's not worth the drive otherwise. The cheese samples were all gone except for one very small piece of cheese that I shared with my wife ......barely got a taste. We did by some cheese and jam but very expensive.
