Just with one more euro added to the price of the ticket to Olavinlinna castle you may visit this museum, too. Go there if you still have time and energy. The old museum ships outside, behind the building, are definitely worth a visit.

For an extra 1 Euro this museum was offered when we paid for the castle tour. It isn't large but it has lots of interesting displays especially on the first floor with descriptions in English. The second floor also had interesting things to see but...More

Worth visiting if you are visiting the nearby castle. The museum has a permanent display downstairs and a temporary exhibition space upstairs. A joint entrance ticket can be bought when paying at the castle - this is very good value.

I was going to watch Savonlinna's famous steam ships, and what a suprise... there was just one left. Few year ago there was still 3 ship. What ever... If you want to see steamships, don't go to Savonlinna provincial museum...

spent an hour here before our tour of nearby castle. Very nice small museum that highlights history of area that has alternated from Swedish, to Russian, to Finnish rule back and forth for centuries. Worth more time than we gave it.

At this summer there is also Alvar Gullichsen art exhibition. Worth visiting. Take a look to old Mikko-ship beach behind the museum.

This museum helped me understand the everyday life of people in the Savo region of Finland in earlier times. I enjoyed learning about burn-beating farming techniques, tar making, and other local customs. The English explanations were clear and easy to understand. I appreciated the hard...More
