The area by the docks can look touristy but it's a great location and I had several good seafood meals there at prices that were quite good for Helsinki. However, service was very inconsistent and you might have to push the vendors to provide the cream and bread and coffee that they promised. Fruit stalls were good and can be... More

Come rain or shine the vendors of fruits and vegetables, fish, flowers, complete meal, jewelry, handicrafts and furs are here to serve you. By mid morning the Kauppatori bustles with locals and tourists. Even in cold weather Finns will sun themselves while drinking coffee. There is not as much bargaining as one might expect. Most vendors speak reasonable english. Tour... More

Interesting and picturesque. I can imagine it is nicer in the summer months. There are numerous stalls in the market with a mix of food and souvenirs and it is most definitely a tourist market as opposed to something where you go to get a look at the local culture. You should go for sure and it is on the... More

Typical market. 1 half is dedicated to food and the aroma is gorgeous even if you are not hungry. The other is all your souvenirs and knick knacks that you would expect to find. Lots of reindeer rugs/mats and fur hats. I really enjoyed it and my mother would have been able to spend all day there however my husband... More

Lots of interesting tourist stalls, selling furry hats, jumpers and jewellery etc plus lots of food stalls. We didn't fancy the food but lots of people did... There is pay parking next to the market.

Nice area to walk thru and eat food or shop for knick knacks. Lots of souvenirs, especially hats and gloves for the chilly early April weather, I'd imagine it's a lot bigger and more crowded in warmer weather.

We caught the ferry from here to go to Suomenlinna. We liked the sheltered waiting room which came in handy as it was so cold!

We are lovers of markets and we especially like this one as it is by the harbour-side, and sell local items such as furs, elk horn products and reindeer skins, hardly a PRC product in sight, there are also many food tents to enjoy, if toilets are required town hall is only steps away. Definitely a must see.

It is impressive that the market also is open late March/early April when the weather is more winterly. It was to cold for us to do more than just pass by.

A traditional market place in perfect harmony with the Presidential Palace and the Senate Square next to it. A good variety of fresh vegetables and a place to have a cup of coffee with perhaps something sweet in pleasant surroundings by the sea.
