We enjoyed this area of Helsinki, the Park was beautifully decorated with Christmas lights. The buildings are beautiful in Empire style. We were there on New Years Eve but I am sure this is an all year round pleasurable place to walk.

The decorative lights in the park are very stylish at Christmas and New Year time, gold and silverish. It is especially beautiful when there is fresh snow on the ground.

Take a stroll down the gorgeous Esplanadi park and sit for a while enjoying ice cream, coffee and people-watching. Beautiful and relaxing in the summer, a bit harsh in the winter - but that's Finland.

The Esplanadi is a nice swath of park that cuts through the middle of Helsinki and is definitely worth a visit. On weekends, ethnic food kiosks are set up for some very good, inexpensive food.

You wont go wrong among the hordes of tourists and locals around this place. Lots of souvenir shops and there was an open air market selling all kinds of reindeer-related stuff when I was here. Good way to spend a couple of hours.

Native Helsinki people love this park which is the heart of the city. It was opened in 1812. Cafe Kappeli, in the eastern end of the park close to Market Place, was built in 1867, designed by famous architect Granholm. Finnish national composer Jean Sibelius was one of its regular guests. During summer time, people gather to the park for... More
