I did not want to miss out on a chance of visiting a submarine when I was on Suomenlinna. The Vesikko is not a high-tech one, as it was built in 1933 But it took part in World War II and torpedoed a Russian transport ship in 1941. Your visit will only take 20 minutes or so, but I found... More

This is an old style submarine and quite small. I was surprised to see how rudimentary it was. I could not imagine sailing in her. Worth a visit and taking the time to learn its history. I think this was Finland's last submarine.... Also take in the nearby military museum

This was one of the reasons I wanted to visit the island to see this submarine. You get a great view of it displayed on the shore as you approach on the ferry. If it's open the entry fee is €5, pay inside. You can walk inside from bow to stern. It's very interesting to see and a bit smaller... More

This is basically a German U-Boat prototype which ended up becoming part of the Finnish fleet. Since the Finnish fleet was forbidden to have any submarines as part of the post WW2 peace treaties what you are seeing is the last vessel to ever be in Finnish service. If you have ever watched Das Boot then you pretty much know... More

It's an old submarine located at Suomenlinna Island, and I would definitely recommend going in if you're in the neighbourhood. It's obviously very small, so you might have to wait some time until you can get in, but it's worth it if you're interested in submarines. Very interesting experience! I think there's usually a small entrance free, but it was... More

Located on an island that is a brief ferry ride from Helsinki, plus a 15 minute walk from the ferry dock. I don't know if I'd come over here from the city just to go into the submarine, but if you make the trip I wouldn't miss it. How often does one get to enter a submarine from WW II?... More

We got to see the submarine for free because of Suomenlinna Museum Day on Swedish National Day. It was interesting, albeit very cramped for obvious reasons! The staff were good at limiting the number of people allowed on at any one time.

We bought the joint ticket with the Military Museum's Manege which was good value. The submarine is very small and the visit would be nicer when it is quiet as there is very little room inside. There were some information signs in English inside the submarine and it was fascinating to imagine how difficult serving on this submarine would have... More
