Mannerheim, Marshal of Finland, was voted the greatest Finn of all time in a survey some 50 years after his death. - I know I should rate the statue, but it would be difficult not to rate it 5/5 due to the fact that it is such an iconic statue to us Finns. Unable to consider it just as a... More

...but you need to know the story behind the statue as well, he was a very important figure in the finnish history. Best thing about it is the location just in frint of the museuum of contemporary art, the Kiasma ( which is really worth a visit!)

Came across by accident. Stately and imposing. I did not know who he was until I read p on it. They should have some more info on the statues to let people unfamiliar with Finnish History know who is being honoured.

Mannerheim Statue is a nice Statue on a good place. It's in the from of the quite new Art Museum Kiasma. Note the steps of His horse! Mannerheim was the head of the Finnish army during the second World war when the Russians (Sovjet Union) started the war against Finland. The resultat of war was that Finland läst some land,... In a city of many statues it is a wonder that another statue if listed as a site. Right near the train station so easy to see if you come/ leave by train.

This the is statue of Gustav Mannerheim. He led Finland to victory and helped to build the country we have now. Statue is impressive but best thing would be to bring you the curiosity into learning the history of Finland (unknown in many countries and amazing when you learn it).

When arriving Helsinki, this statue was the first thing I noticed, and hence became my first meeting with the city. It is located beside the highway, which makes it suitable for a passing by car or bus. To me this was sufficient, and the statue is remarkable, waking my curiosity at once. Therefore I found it frustrating every time I... More

Marshall Mannerheim is an almost mythical character of wartime Finland as he has been both the Supreme Commander of the Finnish army during all the fights in the Second World War and after that the 6th President of Finland. He started his military career though as an officer in the Russian Army under the Czar. He travelled through Asia fighting... More

I pass by this statue several times a day when I go into the centre from my favourite hotel in Helsinki. The man who led Finland to victory over and then defeat at the hands of the Russians sits astride his horse, unfortunately covered with bird droppings. In my opinion, the sculpture doesn't really have a great deal of artistic... More
